North Dakota is often rated as one of the worst states to visit. With a single interstate, more dirt roads than paved roads, and small airports largely accessible through far flung connecting flights, just getting here is a challenge.
The areas that are even less accessible—those down rutty dirt roads ill suited for rental cars, are where the magic happens. Decaying barns and grain silos, and the remains of entire towns, can be found.
These spaces allow for plenty of creative solitude.
